Trichologists are hair and scalp specialists (one type of skin specialist) who diagnose the causes of hair fall, hair breakage, hair thinning, miniaturisation of hair, diseases of the scalp and treat according to cause.
My name is Elizabeth Smith and I've been in the hair industry for over 20 years. My interest into hair loss began when my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, resulting in her losing her hair through chemotherapy. So I trained with Trevor Sorbie and became a “My New Hair” stylist with a designated salon within my hairdressing business in Salisbury, Wilts, which won me a Chamber of Commerce award for most innovative product. I then moved abroad and while living in Gibraltar I ran a hair loss clinic for the charity Cancer Relief Gibraltar.
This inspired me to go on to train as a Trichologist in the UK with Trichocare, but felt there was more to learn so looked to United States Trichology Institute to further my knowledge. The courses I completed with USTI not only affirmed what I had learned in the UK but advanced that knowledge with clinical experience and a fascinating trip to the New York Presbyterian, Columbia Medical Centre where Dr Angela Christiano presented her pioneering research into why hair loss occurs and how it can be treated affectively. I am now a registered Trichologist in the UK with the Association of Registered Trichologist and the United States Trichology Institute.
